Speaking in his weekly radio address President Mohamed Nasheed has announced a declaration made by the government to introduce complete coverage for all Thalassaemic patients under the New Universal Health Insurance Programme “Aa Sandha.” Following the return of the Thalassaemic Control Bill to the People’s Majlis for reconsideration, President Nasheed addressed concerns voiced out by parents of Thalassaemic children stating that starting now, complete coverage treatment would be provided for all Thalassaemic patients.

In his radio address, President Mohamed Nasheed reaffirmed the government’s stance on those who make false and baseless allegations against the government and impressed upon the public, that measures would be reciprocated against them.

The President added that it was not in view of the government to endorse overbroad restrictions on the freedom of expression. The President further reiterated that the government would staunchly support the freedom of expression, but are obliged to defend themselves against false allegations of trying to introduce other faiths into the country. The President affirmed that the President, the government and the Ruling Party firmly deny attempting to spread irreligious practices in the country. President Nasheed added those baseless falsifications which restrain the flow of public thought and damage relations between the government and the public would be considered indictable by the government.

Commenting on the Supreme Court’s ruling in favour of reversing the ban on spas, President Nasheed said clarity was further needed in the matter; that it was unconstitutional to prohibit Maldivians from conversing with other nationalities and to provide services to tourists within the Constitution, Laws and Customs of our country.
