President Mohamed Nasheed has said that Airfrance is in the process of operating scheduled flights to the Maldives soon. The President made this announcement, briefing on his recent visit to France, in his weekly radio address delivered this morning.

President Nasheed reviewed the discussions held at mutually beneficial meetings with the French Minister of Ecology, Sustainable Development, Transport and Housing; and Minister of Foreign and European Affairs, during his latest visit to France last week. Speaking in this regard, the President highlighted the importance of Maldives’ signing the “Paris-Nairobi Climate Initiative”, noting that the agreement would facilitate for the Maldives, the aid and technical assistance being provided to emerging countries in Africa.

The President said that the French Foreign Minister welcomed the Maldives’ stand alongside the French, in the matter of the recent political unrest in Libya.

In his weekly radio address, President Nasheed also highlighted the events to be held in Noonu Kendhikulhudhoo on the occasion of this year’s World Food Day, the 16th of October.
