Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has said the government’s priority, in the education sector, was improving the quality of education.
Speaking in this regard, at the function to mark the 25th anniversary of Maafannu Madharusaa, last evening, Dr Waheed said the government was currently revising the national curriculum, and the government was looking for broader consultation with all stakeholders.
In his speech, the Vice President acknowledged the work of all those who served Maafannu Madharusaa, one of the ward schools of Malé, in the past 25 years.
Speaking on reforming how the ward schools in Malé were operated from the beginning, he noted the importance of introducing new thinking into management and working in partnership with private parties to develop these schools.
The Vice President also spoke on the importance of pre-school education. He said the pre-schools were providing a valuable service and underscored the significance of pre-school education in the development of children. He said pre-school education lays the foundation for future success of children in primary and secondary education. Therefore, he said, we should put more emphasis on pre-school teachers and their development.
The Vice President said in addition to providing education, schools also play an important role in the physical and mental development of children. He said schools provided an environment for peer interaction which is vital for children’s character development.
Stressing the role of parents in children’s development, Dr Waheed said parental communication was the key to positive mental development of children and their success, later in life.
At last evening’s function, the Vice President presented the shields to those who served the School for a long time. He also launched the 25th Anniversary book and cut the anniversary cake.
A commemorative plaque on the occasion of the School’s silver jubilee was also presented to Dr Waheed.
