Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has appealed for immediate reports of all occurrences of tidal surges and natural hazards in the islands to the National Disaster Management Centre (NDMC).
The Vice President urged for these reports today, during a visit made to the National Disaster Management Center to inquire about the wellbeing of the people and damages caused to islands by recent incidents of tidal waves.
The Vice President said following failure to make reports on the situation, concerned authorities would have difficulties in implementing immediate actions being taken to alleviate the distress and improve conditions of the people.
The Vice President underscored for Island and Atoll Councils to be attentive in evaluation. Further, he asked the National Disaster Management Centre to remain vigilant while carrying out assessments made to support the relief efforts.
