President Mohamed Nasheed has congratulated Minister of Health and Family Dr Aminath Jameel on receiving the WHO World No Tobacco Award 2011.
Dr Aminath Jameel is among the six winners of this year’s WHO World No Tobacco Award.
In nominating Dr Jameel for the World Health Organisation’s (WHO) annual award, the organization notes her “outstanding contributions” in the area of tobacco control in the Maldives.
The WHO commends Dr Jameel’s efforts in developing and passing the Tobacco Control Act that was passed by the People’s Majlis in 2010.
The organization also expresses its hope that Dr Jameel’s “able leadership will make a big headway in full implementation of tobacco control law and WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control in the Maldives.”
