Following the ratification of the Maldives Customs Act, President Mohamed Nasheed has appointed Minister of Finance and Treasury Ahmed Inaz as the Cabinet minister in charge of the Maldives Customs Services.
In accordance with the Maldives Customs Act, powers and responsibilities of the Minister include deciding official ports of the country, Customs areas and Customs service outlets as well as finalizing policies regarding the services of Maldives Customs Service.
The Minister in charge of Customs is also responsible for the maintaining and upgrading Customs services, formulating regulations, procedures and systems to enhance the Customs’ accountability, issuing directives and taking appropriate action regarding these matters. The Minister is answerable to the President and the People’s Majlis on the matters related the Maldives Customs Service.
