Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed has visited the University of Milano-Biococca, in Milan, Italy.

On arrival at the university, the Vice President was received by Rector Marcello Fontanesi.

The Vice President, in his visit to the university, attended a University Senate meeting where the Senate announced the Master of Marine Sciences programme to be taught at the University of Milano-Bicocca Outpost in the Maldives, at Magoodhoo.

This program is to be the first such programme to be conducted in the Maldives.

Speaking at the meeting the Vice President commended the university’s academic research in the areas of science.

The Vice President also underlined the establishment of the University’s outpost in the Maldives was enabled after democracy was introduced to the Maldives.

Therefore, he highlighted the need for higher education opportunities for Maldivian students to pursue higher education in the areas of social sciences and liberal arts to sustain and consolidate democracy.
