President Nasheed has visited Narudhoo as last leg of his tour of Shaviyani Atoll.
Meeting Narudhoo island council, during the visit, the President, noting the establishment of local councils after local elections, urged the council to move away from political competitiveness in the lead up to the election and prioritize island development.
He requested the council to work with Upper North Regional Office and the government in formulating and implementing development programmes for the island.
Further, the President said the government’s aim was to handover the budget allocated for the island to island councils, and budget for the administration of the island has already been handed over to councils.
The President also discussed the development programmes allocated to island, and the progress of these programmes with the council.
In this regard, he noted that the island’s harbour was completed in January this year, and sought the council’s view on further developing the harbour.
While in Narudhoo, the President visited Narudhoo School.
The President has returned to Male’ this afternoon, after concluding his visit to Narudhoo, Feevah and and Milandhoo.
