As part of his tour to some islands of Northern atolls of the country, President Mohamed Nasheed has today visited Feydhoo of Shaviyani Atoll.

Meeting the people of Feydhoo, the President highlighted the objectives of the government’s education policy, and said he expected the results of the students who were to take GCE O Level Exams to improve this year compared to 2011.

He stated that the government has made necessary adjustments to the school administration and premises based on people’s needs.

Noting that educating children was the most important requisite for the development of the island as well as the country, he said working to improve the quality of education was a responsibility of every individual.

Referring to protests and forcibly closing the school two years ago, the President said these situations were created by political opponents of the government to obstruct the government’s progress towards its goals.

Continuing in this regard, President urged all citizens not to jeopardize children’s future and country’s future generations, and therefore, future development of the country, for political gain.

After concluding his visit to Feydhoo, the President also visited Narudhoo of Shaviyani Atoll this afternoon.

Addressing the people of Narudhoo, the President Nasheed reiterated that forcibly resettling people from smaller islands in larger islands was not the government’s policy.

Instead, he stated, the government’s policy was to link all the islands via a transport network to facilitate wider access to services available in other islands.

In addition, the President also highlighted the achievements of the government in delivering its pledges, especially providing social protection for all.
