Speaking in Komandoo of North Miladhunmadulu Atoll, President Mohamed Nasheed has reiterated the government’s commitment to promote the adoption of new technologies and use of modern ways of doing things.
 
The President assured the people of Komandoo that the government would use the best technology available to carry out all the government’s programmes in the island in the best quality available.
 
He further added that these technologies would not be paid for by the government, but rather they would be provided by private parties that join the government to deliver these projects.
 
In his address last evening, the President highlighted the achievements of the government over the past two years, especially in providing social protection.
 
President Nasheed noted that a total of 279 residents of Komandoo were insured by Madhana health insurance scheme, under the government’s pledge to provide affordable healthcare. He said a total of Rf433,000 were spent on providing healthcare for these 279 people in 2010.
 
He added that, 68 residents of Komandoo continued to receive the pension of Rf2000 given by the government.
 
Underlining the programmes planned for the development of Komandoo, the President revealed that the government intended to reclaim more land in Komandoo and protect the island by building a revetment around the island.
 
He also revealed the government’s intention to link Komandoo and the adjacent island of Mathi-Komandoo via a bridge.
 

Further, he said the construction of 50 flats allocated for the island would begin this year, and telemedicine services would be established this year.
