President Mohamed Nasheed has ratified four Bills passed by the People’s Majlis on its sitting on 28 December 2010.

 
Four Bills ratified by the President today are:
  • Second Amendment Bill to Judges Act (Act number 13/2010)
  • Second Amendment Bill to Decentralisation Act (Act number 7/2010)
  • The National University Bill
  • Interpretation Bill
 
Following ratification, four Acts have been published in the government Gazette.
 
Second Amendment Act to Judges Act adds an article that states the privileges and pensions that should be accorded to judges who retire honourably.
 
Second Amendment Act to Decentralization Act states how a member elected to local councils could be removed from the council. It states that a member who was elected on a party ticket will be removed from the council if the member decided to leave the party or is dispelled from the party.
 
National University Act states that the Maldives National University should be established within a maximum of 30 days after the commencement of the Act. It also states that the Maldives College of Higher Education will be integrated into the Maldives National University.
 
Interpretation Act sets the legal standards and guidelines that should be adhered to in interpreting and implementing Acts and statutory regulations.
