President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih returned to Malé City on Monday after concluding a two-day visit to Faresmaathodaa Island in the Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll to join the 42nd Fishermen's Day celebrations. During the visit, the President met with the members of the Island Council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) and held extensive discussions about the socioeconomic development of the island.

On Sunday afternoon, the President met with the fishing community on Faresmaathodaa Island, inquired about their needs, and shared with them ongoing efforts by the administration to promote and develop the fisheries sector.

The President also attended a fish-filleting contest and a Fisheries Expo organised by the Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture, as part of Fishermen's Day activities. At the expo, the President launched new products introduced by the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Ltd. (MIFCO) and Horizon Fisheries.

At the official function held to mark the occasion, the President reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to resolving the challenges facing the fishermen of Huvadhu Atoll. He also described some of the administration's initiatives.He revealed plans to dedicate 270 tonne storage capacity and 120 tonne brine freezing capacity to Huvadhu Atoll next year.

A number of activities were held on Faresmaathodaa Island as part of Fishermen's Day celebrations.
