President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, on Thursday evening, participated in the "Summit for Democracy" hosted by Joe Biden, the President of the United States of America.

The event, hosted virtually by the White House, was attended by other Chiefs of States, Heads of Governments, Heads of International and Civic Organisations and other non-governmental participants from across the globe.

The goals of the summit are:

1. To galvanise commitments and initiatives across three principle themes: strengthening democracy and defending against authoritarianism; fighting corruption; and promoting respect for human rights.
2. Engage, listen, and speak honestly about the challenges facing democracy globally and within participating countries, including the United States.

During the event, President Solih spoke about the importance of democracy and the critical role it plays in helping countries coexist peacefully in the modern era. He highlighted that peace was accomplished by sincere confidence in the unquestionable benefits that can be obtained by collaboration and cooperation among like-minded states.
