President Mohamed Nasheed has inaugurated Maldives National Defence Force Southern Area, today, on the occasion of the 117th anniversary of the Defence Force.

Speaking at today’s ceremony, President Nasheed said that the Southern Command is the result of a lot of hard work by a number of people. The President noted that inaugurating the MNDF Southern Area was an important milestone of the government’s policy of decentralised administration of the atolls. Further, President Nasheed said that everything he does was carefully planned to achieve the objectives.

Minister of Defence and National Security Ameen Faisal, Chief of Defence Force Major General Moosa Ali Jaleel, and the Commander of the MNDF Southern Area Brigadier General Ibrahim Mohamed Didi welcomed the President on his arrival at the Hithadhoo Zone Stadium for today’s ceremony.

President Nasheed arrived in Addu Atoll this afternoon and he was warmly received upon arrival in Gan.
