Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed this afternoon took part in the rally, themed “I Stand for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities”, organised by Care Society to mark the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Speaking at Malé Artificial Beach area yesterday afternoon, after completing the rally, the Vice President called for a disability audit of all the current and planned development programmes. He said all necessary measures should be put in place to ensure that everyone in this country received the maximum benefit of every development programme equally.
He noted that the country’s Constitution and regulations did not make a distinction between persons with disabilities and the rest in protecting people’s rights.
The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed on 3 December every year.
