President Mohamed Nasheed has met with the Prince of Wales, Prince Charles at Clarence House, the official residence of the Prince, today.

During the meeting, President Nasheed and the Prince of Wales reviewed the progress of global climate change negotiations since COP15 Summit held in Copenhagen, last year.

President Nasheed briefed the Prince on the impact of climate change on the Maldives, including erosion of the islands and destruction of reefs and dwindling fish catch due to warmer seas.

He informed the Prince on the Maldives´ plan switch to environmentally friendly and renewable energy and set an example for the rest of the world.

Expressing concern about the effects of climate change and noting the importance of addressing the issue globally, the Prince applauded the Maldives´ leadership in moving towards green technology and renewable energy.

Noting the Prince´s enthusiasm for environment and sustainable development, President Nasheed informed the Prince on sustainable pole and line fishing in the Maldives.

One the subject of fishing, the Prince spoke on ways to get international support for the sustainable fishing in the Maldives.

The Prince of Wales also sought information on the domestic political environment in the Maldives and the move towards consolidation of democracy in the Maldives.
