President Mohamed Nasheed has expressed sympathy for the loss of life and extensive damage and devastation caused by widespread floods in Pakistan.

In a telephone conversation with Pakistani Prime Minister Sayed Yousuf Raza Gillani, President Nasheed offered deepest sympathy of the people and the government of the Maldives and that of his own to the people, the government and to the Prime Minister for the desolation and damage caused by floods. He also conveyed sincere condolences to the bereaved families.

Noting that Pakistan was one of our closest neighbours, the President said following his appeal to all Maldivians to support those affected by floods in Pakistan, many people and organisations have showed their support.

Prime Minister Gillani briefed the President on the extent of damage and the efforts being undertaken to provide aid to the affected areas.
