Government of the Maldives has signed the concession agreement to lease Malé International Airport to a consortium of GMR Infrastructure of India and Malaysia Airports Holding of Malaysia.

At a ceremony held at the President’s Office this afternoon, Minister of Finance and Treasury Mr Ali Hashim signed on behalf of the government. Chairman Mr Bandhu Ibrahim Saleem signed on behalf of the Maldives Airports Company Limited, while Chief Executive Officer of GMR Mr P Sirpathy and Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Holding Mr Tan Sri Bashir Ahmed signed on behalf of their companies.

CEO of GMR Mr Sirpathy and Managing Director of Malaysia Airports Holding Mr Tan Sri Bashir spoke at the ceremony.

After the agreement signing ceremony, Chairman of the Privatisation Committee Mr Mahmood Razi responded the queries from press and elaborated on the decision to lease Malé International Airport to GMR and Malaysia Airports Holding. He said the decision was made in a transparent manner and the press and public were fully informed throughout the process. He also said the Privatisation Committee consulted with the International Finance Corporation at every stage of the process.
