As the penultimate stop of his ongoing tour to some islands of North, President Mohamed Nasheed has visited Shaviyani Foakaidhoo, last evening.
Addressing the people of the island, the President assured the people that the sole motive behind his presidency was serving the people. He said the current administration came to office fully aware of its duties and responsibilities, and had the utmost confidence in its ability to deliver the promises.
Speaking in this regard, the President reiterated that the only consultation he needed to do the job was that of the people, and said that he would continue to consult the people as he did before he was elected to the office.
President Nasheed said when he was elected to the office, the country was at a crucial juncture – country was burdened with a huge external debt, expenditure exceeded income, and state funds were being used for personal gains.
He noted that whole country was calling for the change of the government at that point of time.
He further said had the current administration continued in the same path as its predecessor, it would have jeopardised the country’s future development.
