President Mohamed Nasheed has today met with the Indian Chief of Army Staff, General Deepak Kapoor. The call was held at the President’s Office this morning.

Discussions at the meeting were focused on the historic close friendly relations existing between the Maldives and India, and ways to enhance these relations in the years ahead.

President Nasheed highlighted the fact that the relations between the Maldives and India had been at a very high level for the past four decades. He thanked the Indian Government for the generous assistance being extended to strengthen the defence capability of the Maldives.
President has also noted that Maldivians are facing the issue of terrorism and piracy.

General Deepak Kapoor said that help would be given to solve these issues. He also said that it was a great pleasure to have had the opportunity to meet with the President.
