International Labour Organisation (ILO) Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific Dr Sachiko Yamamoto has called on President Mohamed Nasheed today. The meeting was held at the President’s Office this afternoon.
The President said that in the process of consolidating democracy in the Maldives, ensuring employee rights was a priority of the government. Speaking in this regard, the President sought ILO expertise and technical assistance to strengthen legal framework and establish systems for the protection and promotion of employee rights, and create a proper working environment.
Dr Yamamoto assured President Nasheed of ILO assistance and expertise to guarantee the rights prescribed in the Constitution, and ensure adherence to international standards in labour relations issues in the Maldives. She emphasized the importance of respecting the rights of labour for sustainable development.
Vice President Dr Mohamed Waheed, the Political Advisor of the President Hassan Afeef and Minister of Human Resources, Youth and Sports Hassan Latheef participated in today’s meeting.
