President Mohamed Nasheed has said that the government aimed to develop trade in the Maldives by establishing an inter-island transport system. He made this statement this evening while addressing the people of Dhidhdhoo.

Speaking in this regard, the President said that human experience has shown the importance of transport in enhancing economic growth and consequently living standards.

He further briefed the people on the experience of the transport link established in South-Central province, which he said was so far good. He said about 10% of the people in that region uses the transport system daily.

In his speech, the President said with the development of utilities services in the islands, it was important for people’s thinking and education to develop too.

The President also thanked the people of Dhidhdhoo for their role in the democratic movement.

President Nasheed is currently on a tour to some islands of Thiladhunmathi atoll.
