President Mohamed Nasheed has today participated at a forum to provide information on government’s development projects planned for Hadhdhunmathi atoll. The forum was held this morning at Qatar Amir School

Speaking at the forum, the President said that Hadhdhunmathee Atoll was one of the most prosperous atolls in the Maldives. He added that the resources in the atolls could be best utilized, and policies could be formulated in a manner that the atolls and the province would directly benefit from these resources only after the People’s Majlis passed the Decentralization Bill.

He further said that there were several difficulties in providing public services through the ministerial desks located in each province office.

However, he noted that even with these obstacles the government was determined to carry out its work in the provinces. He said that within the next week, the government would begin issuing driving licences, registration of boats, collecting registration fees of vehicles from South Central Province Office. Also, he said projects being carried out by the Housing Ministry could be transferred to provinces.
