President Mohamed Nasheed has yesterday met with Mr Vaclav Klaus, President of Czech Republic. The meeting was held at United Nations Headquarters in New York.

Speaking at the meeting, President Nasheed briefed the President of Czech Republic on democratic reform process and noted that a number of challenges remain ahead in consolidating democracy.

He also briefed President Vaclav Klaus on government’s economic policy and said the Maldives was moving towards liberalization and free market economy. Speaking further, President Nasheed said Maldives was seeking investments and joint ventures under the economic policy.

In response, President Vaclav Klaus said that there were Czech companies that might be interested in some areas and said he would extend cooperation.

The Czech President also said that the meeting was a ‘good beginning’.
