President Mohamed Nasheed has today met with the high Commissioner of Singapore, Dr Chua Yong Hai. The meeting was held this morning at the President’s Office.

Discussions were focused on further strengthening the already excellent bilateral ties between the Maldives and Singapore.

Speaking at the meeting, the President said that Singapore is held in high esteem by the people of the Maldives, and added that it was a model of economic development and progress, as well as an example of the heights to which a small country could rise.

The President also noted that Singapore was amongst the most important development partners of the Maldives, and that it had been contributing to national development in the country in various areas of importance.

Dr Chua Yong Hai noted that the Maldives and Singapore had a long history of cordial trade and development ties and added that a large number of tourists come to the Maldives from Singapore.

He also said that the economic and trade ties between the Maldives and Singapore could be expanded. Furthermore, the High Commissioner assured that he would assist the Maldives, in every way he can, in seeking further investments fro Singapore to the Maldives.
