Vice President Dr. Mohamed Waheed has said that the government is ready to support and provide necessary assistance to the civil societies in their efforts to combat drug abuse in the Maldives.

He made this statement, speaking at the Artificial Beach area this afternoon, after a rally organised by civil societies and concerned government offices that work against drugs.

In his speech, Dr. Waheed acknowledged the efforts of non-governmental organisations in tackling drug abuse in the Maldives.

Dr. Waheed also said civil societies hold an important role in supporting the families of drug addicts.

The Vice President said the issue of drugs is difficult to tackle and that it requires the concerned effort of all stakeholders.
