First Lady Fazna Ahmed visited Gemanafushi Island in the Gaafu Alifu Atoll on Friday to attend the children's festival to mark Children's Day. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in the Maldives and the Maldives Police Service jointly organised the festivities in collaboration with the Gemanafushi Island Council, government offices and institutions, and civil society.

First Lady Fazna Ahmed, Dr Edward Addai, the UNICEF Representative in the Maldives, and Mohamed Hameed, the Commissioner of Police, inaugurated the children's evening on Gemanafushi Island. It featured informative stalls by the police, the Children's Ombudsperson's Office, Gemanafushi School, government offices and institutions, and non-governmental organisations. At the event, the First Lady spent time with the children from the island.

The festivities by the police and UNICEF Maldives to mark Children's Day also included a nationwide art competition and exhibition themed "Child Rights," an awareness session for parents and students of the islands of Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and a cleaning event. After the children's evening, the First Lady visited the art exhibition and viewed the artworks.
