President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Wednesday, stated the most important responsibility of a Journalist is to remain in service of the truth and provide facts-based information. He made the remarks in his address on the occasion of the World Press Freedom Day.

In his address, President Solih extended greetings and best wishes to journalists, their families, news organisation executives, and employees.

The President asserted that it is the responsibility of all journalists to work to maintain the right to freedom of the press. He also emphasised that protecting fundamental human rights and promoting equality for all should be among journalists' top priorities.

President Solih underlined the vital role journalists play in society, by pointing out that the relentless efforts of local journalists have been a significant force in our nation's advancement toward democracy. He further stated that the knowledge and experiences of local journalists should be taken into account when working towards further development of journalism in Maldives.

The President also noted that his administration remains committed to maintain full freedom of the press and will always ensure that every person has the right to freedom of expression and access to information.
