Vice President Faisal Naseem on Sunday met with the island council members, the Women’s Development Committee (WDC), and the management of public offices and institutions in Ungoofaaru Island in the Raa Atoll. The meeting was held at the Secretariat of the Raa Atoll Council.

Discussions at the meeting focused on the island community’s most pertinent needs and developmental requirements. The council members shared with the Vice President the need to expand the scope of the land reclamation project; renovate the harbour quay wall and facilitate embarking and disembarking at the outer seawall; and expand the scope of the project to develop additional classrooms at the school. They also shared the need for more arable farming land in nearby islands.

Representatives of public offices and institutions noted the need to conduct training programmes at the Ungoofaaru Islamic Centre and address challenges to improving policing services and other developmental needs.

The Vice President spoke about the administration’s commitment to ensuring equitable development of all islands and stressed efforts to strengthen healthcare services across the country. He also noted the recent developments in the education sector and highlighted efforts to train principals and other staff.

Speaking about the concerns raised by the community leaders at the meeting, the Vice President noted that they were related to projects progressing at different stages. He also assured the island’s representatives that the administration would work to address their concerns.

After the meeting, the Vice President met with the parents of Ungoofaaru School and listened to their concerns.
