President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih met on Sunday with the island council and the Women’s Development Committee (WDC) members of Veyvah Island in the Meemu Atoll. At the meeting held at the Secretariat of Veyvah Island Council, the President and the island’s representatives engaged in in-depth discussions about addressing the community’s problems and concerns.

The council members noted that President Solih was the first to visit the island over the past 10 years and extended their gratitude for the special attention accorded by his administration to the development of the island. They also noted that several development projects initiated by the administration had been completed.

The council members also shared with the President the most pertinent needs of the community, including developing a new office building for the council, an ice plant, a new ambulance, and renovation of the jetty on Mulaku Island, used daily by students from Veyvah who study on the adjacent island.

Speaking with the representatives from the island, the President assured them the administration would work to find amicable solutions to the concerns raised at the meeting. He also announced that the Local Government Authority (LGA) had included a project to develop the office building of the council in a priority list.

As part of the President’s five-island tour of Meemu Atoll, which commenced on Saturday, he would then travel to Muli Island, where he would meet with the island council, atoll council, and women’s development committee (WDC). Additionally, he plans to assess the progress of the airport development project on Muli Island.
