The Government on Thursday addressed issues relating to the women’s praying area in the Islamic Centre that was raised by First Lady Fazna Ahmed in her speech at the official function held to mark International Women's Day. The Government remedied the issue ahead of Ramadan by allocating space on the ground floor of the Islamic Centre for women to perform prayers.

The Government allocated the open space in front of the Islamic Centre reception area for women who find it difficult to climb up to the second floor, which is the area designated for women in the mosque. The Government directed the public to reserve the allocated ground floor area only for the needful and urged others to continue using the second floor for prayers in order to avoid disruptions that may affect the overall purpose of this decision.

Speaking at the official ceremony held to mark International Women's Day on Tuesday, First Lady Fazna had raised the question of what more could be done to promote empowerment in a meaningful way. She had emphasized how women’s participation in decision making was necessary and essential.

The First Lady had reiterated that women bring a fresh perspective to the decision-making table, alluding to scenarios where meaningful contributions had been overlooked that could have been presented to decision-makers had there been a better representation of women during the process. Interlacing her statement to the upcoming holy month of Ramadan, she stated that if women were questioned about Ramadan preparations, they would emphasize the necessity of space on the ground level of the Islamic Centre for women to pray as some women are unable to ascend two flights of stairs each time.
