President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the previous two years have been the most active and successful years in the history of the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). He made the statement on Sunday evening in his remarks at the ceremony held to mark the 41st anniversary of the company.

Speaking at the ceremony held at the Henveiru Football Stadium, President Solih reiterated that one of the administration’s top priorities has been to ensure access to basic services across the country through decentralised development. On this note, President Solih described MTCC as one of the most important partners, one that the people trusted for its quality of service and timely completion of projects.

One of the largest projects currently undertaken by MTCC is the first phase of the "Integrated National Public Ferry Network"—a large-scale project that would introduce efficient, affordable, convenient, and sustainable passenger and cargo ferry services across the country. The first phase of the project would see the launch of ferry services in Haa Alifu, Haa Dhaalu and Shaviyani Atolls. Speaking about the project, President Solih urged members of the youth to capitalise on the new employment opportunities that come with such projects.

President Solih also touched on MTCCs' contributions to human resources development. The company aims to train 100 individuals in the next three years under its technical skills training programme. The President also spoke about how MTCC had been active throughout the Covid-19 pandemic, stating his confidence in the company to strive to enhance its services and expedite the speed of projects. He went on to stress the essential role played by state-owned enterprises in fulfilling the policies of the administration.

Vice President Faisal Naseem and senior government officials accompanied the President at the function, where President Solih was presented with a copy of the book "Kaamiyaabu 40" about the achievements of MTCC over its 40-year history; Mohamed Faheem, the Chairman of MTCC, presented the book to the President.

At the function, President Solih also presented commemorative plaques to long-serving employees of the company, with Vice President Faisal Naseem handing over letters of acceptance to participants who were selected for the employee training programmes for 2021.
