The Cabinet has decided on how to proceed with the agreement between the Government of the Maldives and International Medicals Group (IMG) of the United States, in 2006 to provide health insurance for the government employees. The issue was discussed in the Cabinet meeting held today.
The agreement between the Ministry of Higher Education, Employment and Social Security, on behalf of the Government, and IMG, represented by Sirius International Insurance Corporation Public Limited to provide health insurance was signed on 29 June 2006. According to the terms of the agreement, IMG and Sirius International began the work under a temporary licence from the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA). However, IMG and Sirius International had to halt the work after the MMA declined their request for a permanent licence.
After discussing the issue, the Cabinet decided that the Attorney General, officials from the Ministry of Finance and Treasury and the American company would negotiate and come to an understanding on how to proceed with the issue.
