According to Vice President Faisal Naseem, the Maldives can achieve triumph and success by joining forces and cooperating with foreign partners. He made this assertion while addressing Public Service Media's (PSM) Foreign Policy segment this evening.

The Vice President highlighted the Maldives' dependence on the outside world for basic requirements. In this regard, he said that since the Maldives is extremely reliant on foreign countries, whether for tourism or for foreign currency, it remains critical to maintain uninterrupted relations with the world community. He affirmed that the international community had placed immense trust upon the Maldives in electing Foreign Minister Abdulla Shahid as the President of the 76th Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).

Reflecting on the state of affairs when the incumbent administration took office, the Vice President stated that the previous regime had adopted isolationist foreign policy. He added that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih, upon coming into office, was swift to re-establish ties with the international community. The Vice President stated that this administration strived to reshape the country’s foreign policy towards the ideals of its people and that those efforts had proved beneficial to the people.

The Vice President said that the fruit borne of the efforts are easily observed from the numerous assistance and aid received during the Covid-19 pandemic. He added that the Maldives had been one of the first countries to receive a considerable amount of vaccines to initiate our national inoculation campaign “Dhifaau” as a result of our strong foreign policy. He added that the Maldives had established foreign relations with 7 countries within this administration and that the nation’s foreign policy would bring prosperity to the nation.
