President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today ratified the first amendment to the Parliamentary Privileges and Powers Act (Act no: 5/2013).
The amendments brought to the Act today stipulate that the Speaker of the Parliament and their family be provided with an official residence. The act further stipulates several improvements to the security and safety of the Speaker and their family, including around-the-clock security services from the Maldives National Defense Force(MNDF).
Parliament passed the amendment bill on June 21, 2021, at the 14th sitting of the second session of the Parliament this year. Upon ratification, the amendment has now been published in the Government Gazette.
