The Government on Wednesday shared insight into the administration’s new policy to resolve the public’s housing issues. Details of the new policy were publicised by Mohamed Aslam, the Minister of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure, at today’s press conference – the second in the series of press conferences organised by Mohamed Mabrook Azeez, the Spokesperson at the President’s Office. Akram Kamaludeen, the State Minister at the Housing Ministry, was also present on the panel.

Minister Aslam expressed that the administration believes in the allocation of social housing to the most deserving people. He announced that the new policy would not consider housing eligibility based on applicants’ profession or age. He, however, said consideration would be given to their living condition and financial status. The government plans to introduce housing schemes under four income bands ranging from low- to high-income categories. Following his statement, Minister Aslam took questions from the media.

Briefing the media on the progress of projects, the Spokesperson informed that three projects had been completed over the past week, while an additional three were initiated. Over the past month, the government began 16 projects, while another seven were completed.
