Vice President Faisal Naseem has held discussions with stakeholder ministries and officials from the Maldives National University (MNU) on strengthening local human resources, in order to boost national growth. The meeting was held at the President’s Office this afternoon.

The Vice President highlighted that the Government prioritizes facilitating opportunities for its young workforce to enhance their skillsets. Vice President Faisal Naseem urged stakeholder ministries and the MNU to collaborate to develop learning programmes and trainings needed for key development areas, in an accessible manner that reaches remote islands far from the capital. He especially noted the lack of Maldivian nationals employed in senior positions within the tourism industry, and stressed that the way to ameliorate this is to provide training opportunities for tourism sector employees, with the MNU to play an important role.

Ministers noted the challenges they face with regard to finding skilled employees, and presented their ideas relevant to addressing skilled-worker shortages. Similarly, the MNU’s faculty heads also shared their perspectives with regard to solving this issue.

The meeting was attended by the Special Advisor on Social Policy at the President’s Office, Musthafa Luthfee, Minister of Education, Dr Aishath Ali, Minister of Higher Education, Dr Ibrahim Hassan, Minister of Tourism, Dr Abdulla Mausoom and faculty administrators from the MNU.
