His Excellency President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has called His Excellency Prime Minister Modi to personally congratulate him on the outcome of the Indian general elections of 2019, in which the Bharatiya Janata Party have won a resounding electoral victory and the Prime Minister has won a full second term of office. He further congratulated all those who took part in the elections as candidates and as voters, in keeping with India’s proud tradition of peaceful and regular democratic exercise.

President Solih conveyed that this outcome reflected not only the leadership abilities of Prime Minister Modi for leading his party to victory but also the confidence of the Indian electorate in the BJP’s and the Prime Minister’s vision for the country. He further stated his administration’s resolve to build on the already positive foundations of cooperation and constructive engagement between our two governments, conveying his optimism that the two leaders can meet in person, in the near future, to discuss the way forward for our mutual foreign relations.

Commenting further on our bilateral ties both the President and Prime Minister affirmed the longstanding friendship between our two countries, and expressed their mutual confidence that that friendship will continue to prosper and strengthen in the coming years.
