Members of the cabinet have decided to open opportunity for all registered airlines in the Maldives to operate international flights, as well as all international airlines that fly to the Maldives to operate domestically. The cabinet made this decision at a cabinet meeting held at the President’s Office today, after deliberation on a paper on the amendment of the existing Maldivian Civil Aviation Regulation, which was prepared by the Ministry of Civil Aviation and Communication.

Under the previous aviation policy of the government, private airlines were permitted to operate international flights only for carrying cargo. The cabinet decided to change the previous policy as such a change in policy will benefit the public and contribute to improving the country’s economy.
