President Dr Mohamed Waheed has urged the Police to speed up their investigative processes in the wake of increased cases of violence. He made this request on Wednesday while addressing the people of Gaafaru during his visit to the island.

In his remarks, the President expressed confidence that the Prosecutor General would take into consideration the dangers faced by the country and remain resolute in fulfilling his responsibilities.

President Waheed condemned attacks by the MDP towards the Chief Justice, Supreme Court Judges, and other political leaders. He said those acts were perpetuated by a few senior members of the MDP and that he believed most of the MDP members were not party to such acts.

The President affirmed that he would not allow the Maldives to fall into chaos that is seen in some parts of the world. Continuing in this regard, President Waheed said the Maldives remained a democracy and not a dictatorship. He also said the judicial system was established according to the Constitution and laws of the country.
