President Dr Mohamed Waheed has called on the people of the Maldives, to have faith and respect for the state institutions, in order for the country to maintain its nationhood. The President made this appeal while addressing the people of Maroshi this afternoon, as part of his current visit to some islands of Shaviyani Atoll.

The President said that there was a small minority who did not accept the judiciary, the armed forces, the police, or the leaders of the country, and that they were only trying to create division and disorder among the people.

Speaking in this regard, President Waheed emphasised on the necessity to uphold the high esteem for the constitutionally established state institutions. The President also said that as citizens, we have to discount the rumours being spread about our police force and armed forces, and appreciate with high regard, the hard work being put in to restore peace and calm in the country, and in defending independence of the country.

Highlighting the high priority his government gives to improve the education system of the country, President Waheed revealed its plans to adapt to modern teaching techniques in the lower grades.

In his speech, the President shared with the people, how challenging his one month in office has been so far, noting that the country was at a very low economic state. He further assured the people, of the continuance of welfare benefits being provided by the state, and that his administration would continue to serve unwaveringly.
