President Dr Mohamed Waheed, by decree, has formed Commission of National Enquiry and appointed members to the Commission.

The Commission of National Enquiry was established to make an independent and impartial investigation into developments in the Maldives from 14th January to 8th February.

Mr Ismail Shafeeu was appointed as the head of the Commission. Other members of the Commission are Mr Ahmed Mujthaba and Dr Ibrahim Yasir.

Mr Shafeeu was a former Minister of Defence and National Security. He also served many other prominent government posts. Mr Mujthba was a former Minister of Tourism as well as President of the first Human Rights Commission of Maldives.

In his decree, the President also requested the Prosecutor General to oversee the legality of the inquiries and investigations, as per Article 223(d) of the Constitution.

Further, the Commission was also asked to make a full report of its investigation and submit to the President, the Prosecutor General and the Attorney General.
