Vice President Faisal Naseem has today met with senior officials of Addu Equatorial Hospital (AEH) and discussed efforts to improve services offered at the hospital. During the virtual meeting held this afternoon, the Vice President inquired on the challenges faced by the management of AEH in the provision of hospital services.

Senior AEH officials conveyed their concerns to the Vice President in detail through an online presentation. The officials also noted difficulties faced in managing the hospital due to the shortage of trained staff to operate existing machinery, difficulties in the purchase of medical drugs and challenges arising from space constraints. The participants also detailed actions taken to mitigate the obstacles faced by the health care sector during these trying times.

Speaking at the meeting, acting Minister of Health, Mohamed Aslam assured that the ministry will work on resolving the impending issues. He also added that the Ministry of Health will continue to hold dialogue with the hospital and work alongside AEH to resolve issues relating to the difficulties faced in the development of the hospital.

The Vice President instructed officials from the Ministry to attend to the issues highlighted in the discussions. He further noted that the development of AEH will allow more Maldivians to receive medical services locally and diminish the need to travel abroad for expensive medical treatments.
