President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has extended his condolences to the family of the late Al Sheikh Hussain Yousuf, an accomplished and long-standing figure in the Maldives’ legal sphere, who passed away last night in India, at the age of 78, following a long illness.

President Solih spoke on the phone with the family of Sheikh Hussain Yousuf, expressing his deep sadness at the news of his passing, and extending his heartfelt sympathy to the family members. He relayed to them the nation’s gratitude for Sheikh Hussain Yousuf’s many contributions to this country.

Al Sheikh Hussain Yousuf served the Maldivian Government for over 29 years. He began work as a writer at "Bodu Store”, following which he worked at “Vuzaratul Ma’arif”, also as a writer.

After completing his Bachelor's Degree in Law from the Islamic University of Madinah (Madinatul Munawwara), he returned to the Maldives and served as a magistrate at the Ministry of Justice. As his career progressed he also served as a Special Magistrate, Director of Judicial Affairs, Director General of Judicial Affairs, Executive Director and Special Advisor on Legal Matters, and earned his first pension on 14th June 2003.

Having served in many senior roles during his long career in the legal profession, the late Al Sheikh Hussain Yoosuf will be remembered for the several important contributions he made towards its progress. He served as a Judge at the Maldives’ High Court, and as a lawyer at the President’s Office. Further, he had also worked as an educator, serving as an ‘Advisor on Islamic Matters’, and as an Islam teacher, at Madarsatul Taiba.
