President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has today met with members of the Neykurendhoo Island council of South Thiladhummathi Atoll.

At the meeting held at the President’s Office this afternoon, the council members briefed the President on the status of the island and the most urgent requirements of the island’s residents. In this regard, the councillors highlighted the difficulties being faced by the people due to the missing basic utility services in the island and lack of urban resources. Noting that these might have led to the high number of migrants out of the island, the councillors expressed their concerns regarding the matter.

Further, members of the council informed the President of the challenges being faced in delivering their services to the public due to the shortage of employees. They also spoke on the need to provide more job opportunities and sporting facilities in the island targeted for the youth population, in order to increase youth engagement within the community.

Speaking at the meeting, President Solih assured that the administration will put in every effort to fulfil the people’s needs.
